Thesis, system of examination and awarding degree

  1. The thesis (the dissertation): the student must submit at the end of his study a full dissertation copies according to the standard required in the University attached to these regulations.

  2. Examiners committee: The examiners committee is formed to discuss and evaluate the student’s performance in the thesis or dissertation he/she has submitted for assigned degree, according the following measures:

i. Examining committee should be composed of least three member’s i.e. the ex

Ternal and internal examiners and the supervisor.

ii. For selection of the examiner the department council nominates to the concerned Faculty/institute or centre research council so as to recommend them to the Deanship Council together with a C.V. of each so as to choose the external and internal examiners.

iii. The internal examiner must be specialized in the same area of specialization of the students’ thesis.

iv. The external examiner should not be one of the supervisors of the student.

v. The decision of the Board of Examiners regarding success or failure of the student is final if unanimous; in case of different views of members the matter shall be raised to research Board of the faculty/institute or center and then to postgraduate council in the deanship for decision.

vi. Examination for any postgraduate student is to be held inside the University, it may also be taken outside the University for Reason considered by Board of Postgraduate and Scientific Research in the University.

  1. Degree a warded: The Board of professors awards the academic degrees for postgraduate studies after fulfilling requirements as follows:

A. Postgraduate diploma:

i. Completing the study successfully with the cumulative average required.

ii. Success in the complementary research.

iii. Recommendation of Deanship Council.

B. Master by courses and complementary research or by research only:

i. Completion by the student of his/her study successfully with required cumulative average of and success in dissertation (in the case of master by courses and complementary research) or success in the research (in the case of master by research only).

ii. Recommendation of the Deanship Council.

iii. When the student of master degree by courses and complementary research fails in obtaining the required cumulative average or fails in the complementary research it can be recommended that he/she may be granted a postgraduate diploma.

C. PhD:

i. Success in the dissertation of the research.

ii. Recommendation of Council of Deanship.

Procedures of oral discussion of master and doctoral degree
  1. The student must submit five copies of the dissertation to the registrar of the Deanship.

  2. Every member of examiners committee referred to in chapter nine (item 1-2) submits a detailed report on the dissertation before discussion in the form prepared for this.

  3. The Dean after consulting examining committee members appoints time for oral discussion of the dissertation.

  4. The discussion is to be closed.

  5. The committee may announce its recommendation directly after the discussion.

  6. Recommendation of examining committee is to be submitted to Dean of the Postgraduate Studies in three copies according to the specified form for that.

Amendment of defects of the dissertation
  1. The Deanship Board can recommend immediately granting the degree recommended.
